Momentum from Movac across the motu
In other news, our KiwiSaaS founding partner Movac has closed its Growth Opportunity Fund 1 at $50m. The NBR reported it surged past its $30m target after a late run of interest, showing there’s strong appetite to back scaling Kiwi companies.
Ka rawe to see capital, capability and community stacking together - exactly what powers Aotearoa’s SaaS upswing!
What it is:
New Zealand’s first VC secondary fund. A secondary fund buys shares from existing shareholders, putting cash into the pockets of founders, early employees and early-stage investors.
How it works:
Led by Partner Mark Vivian, the fund targets high-performing tech Australia/New Zealand companies with $10m+ in annual revenue (ARR) and strong year-on-year growth.
“Secondary funds have performed very well in VC markets such as the US. We saw an opportunity in the market to provide liquidity for those who’ve spent many years building successful companies and want to take some ‘cash off the table’,” says Mark.
Why it matters:
Liquidity for founders and early employees
Recycles capital as early investors realise returns, fuelling the next wave of NZ startups.
And if you’re keeping score, this now makes three different Movac funds backing our ecosystem, with over $700 million raised. How good is that? Follow the Movac team here.
