The Story
It all started in 2011 when founder Jamie MacDonald's mum Lynda, an early childhood educator, wanted a better way to document and share children's learning with families. Inspired by the impact Lynda was seeing, Jamie set out to build a platform that could support educators, families and children around the world.
The Numbers
91 team members across NZ, Australia, Sri Lanka & Canada
Serving 11,800+ early learning services globally
Connecting nearly 220,000 educators and nearly a million children and their families on the platform
67+ million learning stories shared between teachers, parents, grandparents and extended family
Plot Twist
There may or may not have once been an idea for a doggie daycare version called ‘Storybark’. Let's just say they decided to stick with children – probably a wise business decision, though we're sure the dogs would've loved their learning stories too.
The Good Stuff
They say they're ‘children at heart’ and actually mean it – everyone gets a personalised LEGO figurine on day one, plus an extra block each anniversary.
Ask the team what else they value, and you'll hear about a fully stocked kitchen and a LEGO wall that mean rave reviews when the team's children visit, flexible working that means the option of a quick paddleboard at lunch, and dogs welcome into the office any day. But the ultimate thing? Working towards a purpose they believe in – helping every child fulfil their unique potential, by connecting and empowering the community around them.
