The Story
Fergus was founded by Dan Pollard, a seasoned tradie who learned the hard way that hard work alone doesn't build a successful business. After burning out, Dan realised tradies need proper systems to stay profitable without running themselves into the ground – so he built Fergus (named after his loyal, reliable dog who always got the job done). It worked so well, Dan scaled his team from 4 to 24 in four years and eventually worked himself out of a job.
The Numbers
71 people across NZ, Australia & UK with customers around the globe
NZ$15 million Series B funding led by Octopus Ventures
Built by tradies for tradies (founder was a plumber!)
Job management software that actually understands tradies
Plot Twist
This isn't just another tech company building software for industries they don't understand. Fergus is built from real trade experience, not just tech talk – because their founder actually lived the chaos of running a trade business before deciding to fix it.
The Good Stuff
The Fergus Olympics is legendary – two weeks of creative challenges from lightning-fast typing contests to competitive origami folding, plus the ultimate Tradie Challenge where teams wire up lights, connect pipes, and build LEGO construction extravaganzas before heading to the pub. Plus everyone gets share options because they all share in the success.
Want to work for a fast-growing SaaS company shaking up the trades industry? These legends are building smart tools for real people and always hunting for curious humans who love solving messy, real-world problems.
