The Story

Founded in Christchurch by Chris Bacon and Jack Wood in 2018, Komodo originally began as a performance platform for athletes. However, the founders quickly recognised a greater need in education and pivoted the technology to focus entirely on school wellbeing – creating a psychologist-backed platform that eliminates pastoral care barriers through regular student surveying and intelligent insights that enable schools to make positive, data-driven interventions.

The Numbers

  • Empowering student wellbeing across 35+ countries worldwide

  • Team of 20 across New Zealand, London, Dubai & Hong Kong

  • Enabling schools to make positive, data-driven interventions

Plot Twist

People often ask about the name! The Komodo Dragon is the largest in the family of lizards known as monitors. Since their original goal was to be the absolute best at monitoring performance and wellbeing, they named the company after the world's best monitor. Plus, despite both being British, co-founders Chris and Jack had only known each other for about a month before launching Komodo.

The Good Stuff

Every year the global team gathers for Komodo Week – their annual company event bringing everyone together in one place for strategy and celebration. They learned something powerful early on: when you provide students with a medium that truly represents them, they feel safe enough to open up about challenges much earlier and more honestly than they would otherwise.

Hit up Komodo Wellbeing if you want to transform pastoral care and student wellbeing in your school.

From athlete performance tracking to empowering students across 35+ countries – these Christchurch legends prove that the best pivots come from recognising where you're truly needed.
