The Story

Banqer began when one of their co-founders realised their younger sibling was only learning about money by chance, thanks to the teacher they happened to have – and while the lessons were impactful, the paper-based system was laborious and didn't feel relevant for digital natives. Seeing the potential for technology to bring this learning to life, a start-up weekend and a group of co-founders later, Banqer was born as the leader in classroom-based financial education, providing teachers with innovative tools that make it easy to deliver impactful, engaging learning experiences.

The Numbers

  • Team of 14 reaching 680,000+ students across Australasia

  • Operating in 1,900+ schools in Australasia

  • 75,000+ Kiwi students annually with Kiwibank partnership support

  • Based in Ōtautahi Christchurch

Plot Twist

Right now, schools in Aotearoa largely don't have to teach kids about money – it relies on teachers who value it enough to go above and beyond. But under the draft refreshed Social Sciences curriculum, that all changes in 2027 when every Kiwi student will learn practical money skills at school for the first time.

The Good Stuff

When they started charging per student, a principal at a lower socio-economic school couldn't justify paying when students arrived without shoes or lunch. That lightbulb moment changed everything – they partnered with organisations like Kiwibank to ensure every primary school in Aotearoa can access Banqer at no cost, because financial education only works if everyone can access it.

Got a school-aged child who isn't learning about money at school? Hit up Banqer to see that change in 2026.
